From lab work to diplomas: how RITM³ helps grow top-notch transport engineers in Russian universities

SIMETRA Group not only supplies the RITM³ digital platform to cities and regions across Russia but also actively participates in training personnel for the transport industry. Educational versions of RITM³ are already in use at leading universities across the country. Using several Russian universities as examples, we explain how our software is integrated into the educational process.

Industrial University of Tyumen (IUT)

More than 80 students at Industrial University of Tyumen (IUT) are already using RITM³ for their lab work in transport modeling and urban transport planning. Students learn to build traffic flow models and develop scenarios for urban environment development.

"The interaction between universities and developers of domestic software is an important part of improving the quality of education. Students come to work ready to start, and companies don't have to spend time retraining them," emphasized Dmitry Zakharov, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and Head of the "Automobile Transport Operation" Department at IUT.

Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI)

At Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI), RITM³ has become the foundation for the "Intelligent Transport Systems" course. Using practical examples from districts of Saint Petersburg, students learn to create digital twins of street-road networks and analyze the consequences of changes to the road network.

Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering (KSUAE)

Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering (KSUAE) uses our digital platform for both urban planning and purely road-related tasks. Students analyze the impact of new districts on the transport system, learn to eliminate accident hotspots, and plan public transport development.

"RITM³ for us is a bridge between theory and practice. Future designers and urban planners gain experience working with digital twins while still at university, learning to model traffic flows and analyze the consequences of urban planning decisions. Our graduates will be able to benefit the industry from their very first day on the job," noted Lenar Mavliev, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and Head of the "Digital Road Technologies" Department at KSUAE.

Ural State University of Railway Transport (USURT)

At Ural State University of Railway Transport (USURT), students in the bachelor's program specializing in "Agglomeration Transport Systems" work with the RITM³ program. The students conduct lab work that will become part of their term papers and diploma projects. The difficulties that arise during their work are valuable feedback for us. Instructors note that for the beginner level, simpler instructions are needed, and we are already working on improving the training materials. This helps us make the product better.

Ufa University of Science and Technologies (UUST)

At Ufa University of Science and Technologies (UUST), they have successfully mastered the "Digital Twin" module, learning to create models from scratch. Based on the test results, we received valuable feedback from the university. The university plans to actively implement RITM³ into its educational process.

"We are actively testing RITM³ and its capabilities, preparing to implement it into diploma project design. Our goal is for students to begin their careers with confident command of a professional tool," shared Dmitry Tselishchev, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and Head of the Digital Logistics Center at UUST.

Collaboration with universities is a two-way process. We provide students with advanced tools, and their experience and feedback help us develop RITM³.
